An important archaeological discovery made in Saint-Henri last week, on the grounds of what used to be the church of Sainte Elizabeth du Portugal.

A team of archaeologists has uncovered the foundations of the first chapel built in the district more than 200 years ago.

Several 19th-century artifacts have been found, including children's marbles, a brooch, and shards of pottery.

The Sainte Elizabeth du Portugal church, which is on the property known as "The Glen," is being demolished to make way for some 175 housing units for seniors and low-income families.

But before the construction begins, the city wants to find out whether there is anything of archaeological value on the property.
