The city of Sherbrooke, looking for ways to reduce its greenhouse gas-emissions, has rejected plant-based biofuels as a solution.

City council has decided, at a time of global food-shortages, it would be unethical to use fuels made from corn, soy or canola to fill the tanks of their municipal vehicles.

The head of Sherbrooke's sustainable development committee Jean-Francois Rouleau tells CJAD news they're now considering other options like reclaimed oils from deep-fryers or animal fat to fuel Sherbrooke's garbage and recycling trucks, poice cars, public-works and maintenance vehicles.
