NDP leader Jack Layton is zeroing in on the environment and on Federal Liberal leader Stéphane Dion.

Jack Layton often targets Stephen Harper but this time, the NDP leader went on a rare attack against Dion while unveiling his party's environmental platform during a campaign stop in Montreal.

"His carbon tax proposal is wrong, (...) it won't work and he knows it."

Layton says Dion's carbon tax has no target emissions and doesn't force big polluters to pay.

"Taxing your family while letting big polluters do whatever they want is no solution and he knows it."

Layton didn't leave Harper totally out, calling the Tory leader's plan to cut diesel gas taxes a way to reward his friends in the oil industry.

Layton is proposing a seven point plan that includes a polluter pay and cap and trade system, with a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by year 2050.
