Gazette talks break down
Talks have broken down between the Gazette and its employees.
Conciliation talks were held over the past two days in a bid to avert a strike or lockout at the English daily.
Workers have launched an on-line petition to try to get public support: http://www.petitiononline.com/mng30111/petition.html
Reporters are also withholding their bylines as a pressure tactic.
The Montreal Newspaper Guild representing about 200 editorial, sales and advertising staff voted in favour of a strike mandate last month.
They've been without a contract since this past June.
The key issue is parent company Canwest Global Communications' decision to outsource certain tasks, such as shipping out layout duties to a non-unionized shop in Hamilton
