Cable-car to rescue Montreal tourism?
A couple of Montreal promoters believe they have the answer to bring the tourists back -- a cable-car!
The $100-million project would link the Old Port to Parc Jean-Drapeau, with a cable-car leaving every 12 seconds, for a travel-time of 7 minutes.
And they think it'll be a huge hit, and bring in more money for the city than the F1 and the Jazz Fest combined.
The lead promoter says the Montreal cable-car could be as big a tourist draw as the Eiffel Tower, or the CN Tower, or the London Eye.
His says people will travel to Montreal just to ride the cable-car.
Marcel Tremblay with the mayor's team says it sounds like a good idea, but the city has yet to take a look at the project.
Parc Jean Drapeau has given its support.
But the Old Port says a cable-car just wouldn't jive with Old Port heritage, and it wants nothing to do with it.
