Teacher with killer past ordered re-hired

The French-language Montreal School Commission is being forced to rehire an adult education teacher who hid a manslaughter conviction in his past. The Supreme Court has decided not to hear the commission's appeal of a ruling that gave Jean-Alix Miguel his job back. He served time in prison after killing his wife during a psychotic episode in 1991. In 1998, he was hired to teach electrical work to adults, having told the commission that he'd never been convicted of a violent crime. An arbitrator had ruled that the crime had no bearing on his teaching work.
