Quebec set a record last year and the experts are divided on whether it's a good thing.  The number of prescriptions for Ritalin and its generic imitators was up 14-percent.  Quebec is the Ritalin capital of Canada, with 41-percent of all Canadian prescriptions filled here eventhough the province represents just 25-percent of the population.  Ritalin is used to treat attention deficit problems.  Some experts say doctors are too eager to write prescriptions instead of offering overwhelmed families alternatives.  They also say teachers pressure families to seek Ritalin treatment.  However, other experts say the increase is due to better diagnosis and a growing belief that attention deficit must be treated beyond childhood.
