Young motorist manoeuvre ends in death of pedestrian
A 24-year-old Montreal man has been charged with dangerous driving causing the death of an 88-year-old pedestrian in Montreal North.
Defence lawyer Frederic Carle wouldn't say anything about his young client, only that he is charged with reckless driving causing death and that his bail hearing is in the morning.
Pascal Magna didn't appear in court very long. His mother was in the courtroom in the front row.
Magna is accused of backing up from the middle of the intersection at Marie Victorin and Hurteau in Montreal North last night and then hitting an 88-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the street.
Bertrand Mercier was dragged a couple of feet. He died of his injuries in hospital shortly after.
"The alcohol is not involved in that," says Montreal police constable Raphael Bergeron.
The crown is objecting to the young man's release.
