There's hope that the sale of the Montreal Canadiens might have positive spin-offs for Quebec city as well.

"There are a few other major groups who seem eager to get their hands on the Montreal Canadians," says sports columnist Kevin Johnston. Big-names like Quebecor and Celine Dion's husband and manager, René Angélil, have expressed an interest in the Montreal NHL team.  "That's why everything seems in order" for attracting an owner for Quebec city, Johnston says.  The right entrepreneur could also get a 100 million dollar loan if he or she re-locates a NHL team to the provincial capital, the minister of finance says. Raymond Bachand says it would be a loan, with interest, "on condition that the business plan is solid and demonstrates that the project would be profitable," he says.

The idea is popular with a lot of Quebec city hockey fans. "If they come back here, I would be more than happy," says local Nicola Vachon. He remembers when Quebec city lost it's NHL team, the Nordiques, in 1995. "I was watching hockey a lot when the Nordiques were here, but i was so disappointed when they were gone," he says. "I even stopped watching hockey because I was so mad about it."
