Arrest made in case of dead puppy
A 35-year-old man has been arrested and released following the discovery of a dead puppy in a Dorval trash can in May.
A veterinarian has confirmed the dog had been strangled.
The puppy was found by a woman named Angelica who thought it odd the burly man was allegedly dumping the trash bag with the dead animal inside of it in to the public bin on Lakeshore Blvd. in Dorval.
She checked the contents of the bag after the man left the scene.
The puppy had a leash tied like a noose around its neck and its snout was taped shut. A veterinarian has since determined the puppy had been strangled.
The Dorval man was picked up June 17th and has since been released on a promise to appear. He will likely face animal cruelty charges but the SPCA's Alana Devine doesn't expect much to come of it.
"The precedent has been that only in the most severe cases of recidivism, or someone who has committed these offensive acts more than once, we've even seen only minimum jail time."
If a judge should decide on the max, it would mean five years prison term or a ten-thousand fine.
