Montreal-North mayor to step down

Marcel Parent will not seek re-election come this November.

The mayor of Montreal-North says he is leaving politics for health reasons.

In a statement, Parent says his health has deteriorated in recent days and, after several discussions with mayor Gerald Tremblay, decided to call it a career.

He will stay on until November 1st.

Parent was elected borough mayor of Montreal-North in 2001. In 2005, he was named speaker of the municipal council.
