Family believes canal deaths to be a tragic accident
The family of the four victims found dead in their submerged car in Kingston, Ontario believe the deaths were an accident.
The bodies of 50-year-old Rona Amir Mohammed and her three teenage nieces, Zainab,Saharand Geeti Shafi, were found in a submerged car in Kingston early Tuesday morning.
The mother of the girls, Tooba Yahya, says her oldest daughter was learning to driveand had asked several times during the family trip to Niagra Falls if she could get some practice in.
The night before the car was found, she had asked her mother for the car keys to get something out of it. The next morning, the family awoke to find the car gone and the family members missing.
Hours later, police in Kingston informed them the four had been found in the canal.
The family hails from Afghanistan but had lived in Dubai up until two years agowhen, according to the father of the three girls, Mohammed Shafi, decided to move to Canada in order to give his seven children a better life.
