Kahnawake re-elects grand chief

Michael Delisle, Jr. has been elected to a third term as grand chief in Kahnawake.
Voters on the Mohawk reserve southwest of Montreal cast their ballot Saturday for the top job, and for band council members.
Delisle received 715 votes, ahead of former police chief Warren Lahache, with 449 ballots.
The vote went ahead mired in controversy as grand chief candidate Keith Myiow was excluded from the ballot, despite a federal court order to let him run.
Myiow was barred because of previous infractions of council rules. Electoral officials said they follow Mohawk regulations, not those from Ottawa.
