More delays in drunk driving case
More delays in the case of the 52-year-old South Shore drunk driver who was expecting a plea bargain.
Guy Gagnon had pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and hitting and seriously injuring a young man on his scooter in the Monteregie community of St Philippe four years ago.
Gagnon was in court along with some family members and the crown prosecutor. The only one missing was Gagnon's new lawyer. Apparently he's on holiday, something he told the crown last week. But a clearly frustrated Ève Malouin told the judge they should proceed in the case that has dragged on since Gagnon was drunk behind the wheel and ran over a 17-year-old manon his scooter in summer 2005, with Gagnon in court numerous times.
"33 or 34 (times), I don't know, the only thing I could say is we were ready to proceed," Malouin told reporters.
Malouin says she also hasn't heard a peep about a request for a stay of proceedings, something the defence suggested last time around.
The judge was a little more understanding than previous times when he made it clear he wanted to move things along, saying, what can they do, it's summer vacation time.
The case is back in early September, supposedly for sentencing arguments now that Gagnon has pleaded guilty though that could change.
