The CJAD Trivia Show has been on the air since, like, forever. With a couple o' smart guys like Dave Fisher and Dan Laxer on one side of the glass, Maniac Mike Babins and Screwy Louis on the other, it's a wonderfully wild and wacky place to spend a Sunday morning.
Answers to questions heard on The CJAD Trivia Show:
What legal exemption, used these days as a loophole through newly enacted legislation, has a dark history? (The so-called Grandfather Clause, used these days to retain one's previously legal status despite newly enacted laws, began as a way to prevent African-Americans from voting, even though they'd been given the legal right. Some states still did not want Blacks voting so they enacted the “grandfather clause” which stated that you could not vote unless your grandfather had voted before 1857. Slaves could not legally vote before the civil war. Nor, according to the grandfather clause, could their descendants.)
What did news coverage of the 2000 US Presidential election campaign hand down to future campaigns, including the McCain vs. Obama campaign, that flies in the face of what we know about the political spectrum? (The designation of red and blue states as conservative and liberal, or Republican and Democrat was really just random on the part of the more popular news channels at the time. And the controversy of that election, including the disputed Florida results, brought “red and blue states” to the forefront. As The Gazette's Mark Abley recently pointed out, it even had David Letterman joking about who should run the blue states and who should run the red ones. It stuck, and US presidential election campaigns will forever be a race between red states and blue states.).
Trivia Tid Bits
Do you know why Emma Thompson took the role of Professor Sybil Trelawney in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkahan? To impress her 4-year old daughter. Gary Oldman, on the other hand, took the role of Siruis Black because he needed the money.
The late Chris Farley was the original voice of Shrek. Mike Myers took over after Farley's death.
Ladies, does your husband drive a Porsche? He may be cheating on you. A recent survey shows that most men who drive Porsches are unfaithful; a full 40% of Porsche drivers admit to playing around.
Regardless of how we feel about our own physical features, we all agree on the perfect nose, whether you're happy with your own nose, or you're not. The perfect nose is smaller than the average nose, with just a bit of a scoop, and touch of uptum... whatever that means.
The late Andy Kaufman was probably the first Elvis impersonator, and certainly Elvis's favourite. Kaufman didn't like to be called a comedian, by the way, and claims to never have told a joke in his life.
