Paul Newman's Sun Youth connection

Paul Newman was not only known for his acting, but also, for his soft spot for the underdogs in real life.

He gave tens of millions of dollars to charities through his food company, Newman's Own, which sold salad dressing, spaghetti sauce and popcorn, among other foodstuffs.

One of the charities he supported was Sun Youth, here in Montreal.

The organization's Sid Stevens says Newman donated about $150,000 to Sun Youth since Newman's company was formed in 1982 -- and although Newman never actually visited Sun Youth, Stevens said he would send notes to him.
