Finnigan Quiz Show - host biography

Merv Williams

Birthplace? ~I was born in  good ol' Lachine, Quebec. It was a cool Saturday In March and 58 hours of...ok too many details.

What's the best thing about living in Montreal?
This is my home town. Despite the fact that we at times have to put up with political ridiculousness, Montreal has everything. I enjoy great comedy, the Habs, the 175 000 festivals. I love the different cultures, it makes for a great community and, luckily for us talk show hosts, provides for lots to talk about.

Most memorable moment in your radio career?
Thinking bout this one, the moments that stay clear in my mind are when CJAD is making a difference. First the Radiothons bring our listening community together in order to support deserving charities. Also when the bigger news stories break, radio will always be able to tell you first, and that is part of the reason I have chosen this medium.

Favorite person you interviewed and why?
I had the chance to interview Dave Thomas, ok yes I was excited to talk to a Hollywood star, but this was also a guy I grew up watching. I am a huge fan of SCTV and Bob and Doug and of all Canadians success stories for that matter. He was down to earth willing to chat and it was fun.

Other than Montreal, where else would you love to live someday?
Im not a winter loving guy. I do not ski or skate, so I am looking for somewhere I can play golf in January. Are there radio stations in Jamaica?

When you have friends visit Montreal from elsewhere for the first time, what's the one thing you insist they see/do?
Again, I would make sure my friends take in some comedy. Maybe a trip over to the casino because it's there. Gotta do the Nascar thing, can't wait.

What's the weirdest job you've ever had?

This is probably my weirdest job. I get paid to talk and play games. I really can't believe it at times. I enjoyed the fast food nation of my youth, then onto the Empire Records existance at a music store then I became a Crescent Street DJ.

Favorite Hobby/Pastime?
I have this pirate ship in a bottle. Currently inside the bottle are two popsicle sticks, some black string and a rather large clump of glue. I have been working on this since 1987. I was 9.

Favorite magazine?
This question could potentially get me in trouble. Family station....I have a subscription to TIME, keeps me in touch with biggest issues. Men's Health helps me work on my abs (yes place your joke here) and of course every guy should check out Cosmo from time to time, for obvious reasons.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be, and why?
I do like the idea of the Superman package deal is, you can save on airline tickets and really you never have to find parking. But i also want a utility belt more for day to day use. Need a spork?

Favorite television show of all time?
All time eh?  The Simpsons would have to get that honour. But I find I only make time for a few shows including Family Guy, Rescue Me, and some HBO.

TV Show that you'd most like to appear on, and why?
I'd like to do the Amazing Race, but there's just too much running. Oh and I'd like to find out how well I would do on that Canada's Worst Driver Competition thing.

Famous person (living or dead) you'd most like to have lunch with
That would probably be John Belushi. I'm a big fan and he left to many questions unanswered.

If they made a movie about you, what actor would you like to play you?
Brad Pitt...obviously

What's your #1 pet peeve?
People who drive too slow in the passing lane, traffic in general and...and the fact that American Cocao Pebbles are superior to those made in Canada. What is the reason for this? Why must I travel to Plattsburg simply to satisfy my cereal needs. Do you know what happens when the border guard asks you why you're visiting and you say delicious chocalatey cereal??...not pretty.

Whom do you admire the most?
Has to be my Dad, honestly being provided with food and shelter, that was very fantastic, I miss that.
